1. In the Journalthe articles with the subject matter in the focal areas of fundamental and applied research in the fields of study of aquatic bioresources and their habitat, aquaculture and reproduction of aquatic bioresources, fisheries and processing of aquatic bioresources, conservation and rehabilitation of aquatic ecosystems, international cooperation and collaboration, and the history of science are published; they should have never been published before.
2. The Editorial Board accepts:

  • theoretical and review articles;
  • articles, featuring the results of completed original scientific research;
  • articles, describing new methods and tools of research;
  • articles on the history of science;
  • short reports on scientific findings, results of expeditions, etc.;
  • announcements of scientific conferences, workshops and meetings, as well as of their proceedings;
  • reviews of monographs and books;
  • notifications of the scientists’ Anniversaries and other memorable dates.

3. General requirements: materials are submitted in pages of A4 size, with portrait page orientation (layout), with 25 mm left and right, top and bottom margins (Times New Roman font, *.doc or *.rtf file extension, without macros, font size 12, line spacing 1.5, paragraph indentation 1.25), in electronic form.
The length of a manuscript (including references, tables, figures and figure captions): for summarizing theoretical and experimental works and reviews, it should not exceed one author’s sheet (i.e. 40,000 characters, or up to 22–23 pages); for the articles, containing the results of long-term research and experimental works, it should be no more than ¾ author’s sheet (i.e. 30,000 characters, or up to 16 pages); for methodological works and brief informational messages, it should be about ¼ author’s sheet (10,000 characters, or 6 pages); for critical reviews, historical accounts, reviews, chronicles, individual biographies (personalia), book abstracts, conference announcements and resolutions it should be up to 4 pages (6,000–7,000 characters).
4. The text of your article and its supplemental materials are submitted to the Editorial Board via the e-mail address (journal@azniirkh.ru) in one message and should include the following attached files:
1) the file with a fully completed article (with tables, figures, arranged in the text), named after the surname of the first author (for example, Ivanov_text).
On the last page, the authors’ details should be given: the full name (surname and first names, or surname, first name and patronymic), the phone numbers with city codes, the author’s addresses with postal indexes (zip-codes), the e-mail contacts. An e-mail contact number for efficient communication will be indicated on the first page of the article and provide the readers with the possibility to contact the authors.
2) the scanned last page of the article with signatures from each author and the date;
3) all tables and figures as individual files (visuals in *.jpg or *.tif format), named after the surname of the first author with the number of the figure added (for example, Ivanov_Tabl1, Ivanov_Fig1);
4) authorization from your organization for open-access publication of the article;
5) the Agreement to transfer the publication rights for the manuscript, signed by all authors (the template of the Agreement can be found in the Appendices to these Guidelines or on the website http://journal.azniirkh.ru/en/author_guidelines/);
6) metadata on each author in one document (in Russian and English) (the template can be found in the Appendices to these Guidelineson or on the website http://journal.azniirkh.ru/en/author_guidelines/);
Students (postgraduate and doctoral) have to attach the evaluation report from their scientific supervisor.

5. Manuscript formatting and layout (manuscripts that do not adhere to the formatting standards will not be considered): before article, the index according to Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) is stated in the left upper corner, and the authors’ initials and surnames, names of institutions, city, postal code and country are given under the title and center-aligned. In the name of institution, its affiliation (or its status, type etc.) is not specified (e.g., it is written Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography, not the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution “The Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography”).
short Abstract (150–250 words according to the plan: introductory sentence, research rationale (relevance), objective, methodology, results, conclusion; the items themselves are not mentioned) and Keywords (not more than 10), both in Russian and in English, are required for the article. The title of article, its authors and their details, abstract and keywords are translated. There should be no transliterations in the translation, except for names and surnames, designations for equipment and other proper names. Special terminology, appropriate for a respective language, should be used, including names and designations for animals, plants and processes. Names of institutions, organizations, establishments, etc. are given in transliterated form.
Text should be thoroughly edited.
The body of the article of an experimental nature should follow a specific plan: INTRODUCTION, MATERIALS AND METHODS (describing the methodology of your research, you should confine yourself to its original part), RESULTS AND DISCUSSION, CONCLUSION, ACKNOWLEDGMENTS (where you, for example, refer to the grant budgetary support for the research), REFERENCES. Originality (the result of plagiarism check) of the text—no less than 75 % without References—is ensured by the authors.
References to figures and tables are typed with spaces (Fig. 1, Table 2 instead of Fig.1, Table2).
      If there is only one figure, the reference to it in the text is presented as (Figure), and the word “Figure” is absent from the figure caption.
        If there is only one table, the reference to it in the text is presented as (Table), and the word “Table” is absent from the table caption.
        In the text, tables, graphs and charts, reiteration of the same data is not allowed.
Tables are created using MS Word tools (tab “Insert”—“Insert Table”, font size 11 pt, line spacing 1). Tables typed manually using spaces (without cells) are not acceptable. Table should have a title and a sequential number; the word “Table” should be put on the left side to the title; notes are marked with asterisks. The title (the table’s headline) should contain all general information, and all details should be given in notes, in order to not overstretch the title.
Tables are numbered with Arabic numerals. Table titles and notes, as well as all text content of the table, are given both in English and Russian.
Only the commonly used abbreviations are allowed in the article. All measurement units should be used according to the International System of Units, ISO 3166 (SI-system).
Equations and formulae should only be typed using math expression input (Insert/Object/ Microsoft Equation 3.0), font size 11 pt.
The first instance of species being mentioned in the article (species of a plant, an animal, etc.) should be followed by its full Latin name with the authority (the name of the scientist or scientists who first validly published the scientific name in question) and the year (when it was first validly published), without abbreviation. Species and genus of organisms are written in italics, and for the authority and year, the upright type is used.
Hyphenation is allowed only in the “Auto” mode.
In Russian, the following abbreviations are used: г. (хребет / Ridge); in other cases, the name of the geographic feature is given in full. Measurement of elevation above sea level (meters above sea level) is abbreviated as “m a.s.l.”
          There should be no period after: UDC, title of the article, authors’ surnames, names of the institutions, headline, figure captions, table titles, notes and footnotes, measurement units (g — gram, m — meter), as well as in subscripts (Corg).
          Hyphens are used only in composite words and are not separated with spaces. For a dash as a punctuation mark, m-dash is used without spaces before and after it. Between numerical symbols, n-dash is used (1999–2002, 10–14 km). Symbols “ – ”,  “ + ”, and  “ = ” are separated from words with spaces on their both sides; symbols “<” and “>” are separated with a space before the symbol. Symbol “±” is not separated with spaces. Symbols “°” (degrees), “'” (minutes), “"” (seconds), “‰” (per mille), and “х” (multiplication sign) are taken from the table of symbols. Accent mark should also be copied from the table of symbols.
Measurement units, according to the ISO 3166, are separated from a digit with a space (150 kPa, 10.34 A, 20 °С, 50 %, 44 ‰). The designations represented as a superscript are an exception; they do not require space before them (90°, 45', 30"). Fractional measurement units: 58 J/mol, 50 m/s2.
Decimal fractions are typed using a comma in Russian and using a period in English.
There should always be a space between a surname and initials: P.J. Peterson (except for the author’s list in the head of the article, where space is also put between initials: P. J. Peterson).
Quotation marks and brackets are not separated from the words enclosed by them with spaces. Between a numero sign or a section sign and a numeral, a space should be put (No. 3, № 65, § 5). Designations with both numerals and letters are input without spaces: Fig. 1d. In the abbreviated names of geographical features in Russian, a space is put after a period: р. Дон (the Don River), о. Сахалин (the Sakhalin Island).
In the case of enumeration, as well as for numeral ranges, measurement units are specified only for the last number (18–20 J/mol), with the exception of angular degrees, which should never be skipped. Celsius degrees: 5–10 °С; angular degrees: 5°–10°, not 5–10°.
For the illustrative purposes, no more than five-six clearly readable black-and-white figures for the printed version are accepted; for the electronic version, they should be black-and-white and/or colored. You can add more illustrations upon agreement with the Editorial Board. You should submit visuals in the *.tif or *.jpg format, with resolution no less than 300 dpi. Each figure should be submitted as an individual file, named after the surname of the first author with the number of the figure added (for example, Ivanov_Fig1, Peterson_Fig2, etc.). Size of the illustrations with figure captions should be proportional to the size of a printing area (175 х 225 mm) or a column (85 х 225 mm) and not exceed it. Scanned images should have resolution no less than 600 dpi both for continuous-tone and line (graphs, charts, drafts, tables, etc.) images. Figure captions should be given on the separate page in Russian and English. Caption includes: sequential number of the image, its subject and explanation for all curves, numerals, letters and other conventional designations. In the text of the article, a reference should be made to each figure. Words and designations in the image itself should be kept to minimum; all explanatory notes (keys) should be restricted to caption, where it is not allowed to reiterate non-numeral and non-alphabetical symbols (squares, circles, etc.), used in the image.
Source references are given in square brackets in the order of reference placement in the text of the article (beginning from [1], [2], [3], etc.). List of references should be written on a separate page. References to unpublished works are not allowed. If the article, to which the reference is given, has DOI, it is required to state it in the References (doi:).
In the case of the journal articles, you should state surnames and initials of all authors, the title of the article, a full name of a journal or an officially accepted short title in italics, year, volume (vol.), issue, number (no.), the first (pp.) and the last pages of the publications. For collected papers and monographies, surnames and initials of all authors (or editor(s), designated by (Ed(s).) are mentioned, as well as the title of the book, the place and year of publishing with the name of the publishing house, the number of the volume or issue, total number of pages (p.). For publications in the collected papers or chapters from the monographs, the surnames and initials of all authors should be mentioned, as well as the title of the publication or the chapter (In: Full name of the monograph in italics), initials and surname(s) of editor(s), place of the publishing, publishing house and year, volume and/or issue, the first and the last pages of the publication (chapter). For Extended Abstracts of Candidate’s Theses: surname and initial of the author (period), title (period), Extended Abstract of Candidate’s Thesis (Biology) (period), city (colon), institution (comma), year (comma), total number of pages.
Articles from electronic journals and other on-line publications are described similarly to the ones in printed editions, with the addition of their access address (Available at:) and the date when the source was accessed. The surnames of the authors are given in their original transcription, both in the reference list and in the text itself.
It is recommended that not less than 50 % of the literature sources, quoted in the article, were published recently (in last 5 years), except for the review articles upon agreement with the Editorial Board.
For the referenced sources, written in the language not using the Latin alphabet, the language of the publication is stated: (In Russian), (In Japanese), etc.
The manuscripts that were not executed according to the formatting requirements are returned to the authors without consideration. The Editorial Board reserves the right for necessary elaborations and abridgments in the text and the title of the article, as well as to submit the article for plagiarism check through “Antiplagiat” system (75% of originality is provided by the author ), and to give the author(s) a suggestion to scale the article back to short informational message (usually without any visuals).
6. Review process. The manuscript will be sent to reviewers for the process of peer review. For this Journal, the (anonymous) double-blind peer review is used: the authors and reviewers do not know the surnames of each other (except for the cases when the reviewer wishes to inform the author of their name). The authors should respond to all reviewers’ remarks by making corresponding corrections or providing substantiated explanations for the points they do not agree with. The Editorial Board makes the decision, whether to publish the article, or not, on the basis of the reviewers’ opinions and the results of the discussion.  If the article is declined, the Editorial Boards informs the authors through the letter of rejection, which is duly substantiated and sent to the contact address (postal or electronic). The decision of the Editorial Board is final.

7. In the case that the article was returned to the author(s) for reworking according to the reviewers remarks, it should be submitted back to the Editorial Board no later than 2 weeks after as a corrected and revised version.
After consideration and correction of the article and execution of the license agreement, no further edits are allowed.

Manuscripts are published in the order of their submission and completion of the reviewing process; usually, there are about 10 publications in one Journal issue. The manuscripts that have not been accepted for publication are not returned to the authors and will not be considered again. The manuscripts that were returned to the authors for revision and correction are reconsidered by the Editorial Board. Revised text should be resubmitted along with its original version and the responses to all reviewer’s comments. The date of arrival of a manuscript with a complete package of documents is regarded as its receipt date. The date of the arrival of the manuscript approved by both reviewers and fully revised is regarded as its date of acceptance for publication.

The manuscript with all required supplemental materials should be submitted in one message to the e-mail  journal@azniirkh.ru or address: 344002, Rostov-on-Don, Beregovaya St., 21v., the Editorial Board of the Journal “Aquatic Bioresources & Environment”.
